In my time I have obtained some autographs from Elton & related people as well as some personal items from Elton.
When I got to speak Elton backstage for the second time, in Grand Rapids, Michigan in October 1997, I asked him if he was going to do another Out of the Closet sale. He said he would and that it was planned for November/December in London.
Having missed the first two Closet sales I knew I just had to be there. I had to have an Elton thing that he once owned.
So on November 28, 1997 I got on a flight to London. I can remember even thinking if I were to sleep in front of the door, just to be first. Because of the bad weather I soon let go of that thought. Even on the morning itself I was not that early. About 8 o'clock, but still being the first together with someone from Ireland (who lived in London by the way). So we were right in front. Elton would open the shop around 10 I think, so we had some time. Around 9 all the press gathered there and I was interviewed by the Guardian (also after my shopping around).
When Elton arrived I got out my photo of the two of us and had him sign it (he greeted me kindly and I was happy he recognised me).

When EJ left we were allowed into the shop. Only ten people at the time and you had 10 minutes. Therefor I went in twice...

After my shopping I was the first one to leave the shop with stuff so got ambushed by the press. I was interviewed by TV stations ABC (American) and Channel4. Also again by the Guardian. I bought the Guardian the day after and found myself in it (see article here). I never saw the TV footage, though I heard people who saw it. So if anyone has it, PLEASE let me know.
Just recently I found this BBC page with also has me and Elton on it at the Closet Sale. Cool! |
